WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT BEING PART OF THE SCOTT BUILDERS TEAM?

I have to say the culture is my favourite part about being a member of the Scott Builders Team. As the team has grown and changed over the years each member of the team has come together to work through challenges with resilience and teamwork. This dynamic not only makes for a great team to work with on a daily basis but allows us to truly enjoy coming together to build great projects. Additionally, Scott Builders fosters an environment of work/life balance and seeks out input on branch/company targets, enabling the team to work hard to achieve both personal and company goals.

WHAT INITIALLY DREW YOU TO THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY & WHAT MADE YOU STAY?

I’ve been immersed in construction growing up. In grade 12 I managed and built a garage addition for my dad and really enjoyed the experience. I took RAP in grade 12 to try apprenticeship and enjoyed it, seemed to fit my outlook of learning. As my career developed, I truly enjoyed the industry and people I apprenticed/worked for. At the time I enjoyed the field work and the changing hours. As I’ve grown in my career I’ve embraced the ever-changing landscape and love new learnings each day. With the variability of the industry, materials, people, etc. I am continually challenged to think out of the box to ensure success and contribution. I take great satisfaction in client happiness making their vision a reality while actively participating in achieving success throughout and at the end of the job. I have developed so many great relationships and friendships along the way, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else, and I look forward to seeing where the next 10 years take me.

WHEN YOU’RE NOT HARD AT WORK, WHERE CAN WE FIND YOU?

You can find me spending quality time with my family. I have 2 children that are 4 and 2, and nothing brings me greater joy than spending time reliving my childhood and life through their eyes. My son often says “Dad I want to get big like you and go to work” and I respond “no you don’t son- stay little and enjoy the ride”, I am so grateful I get to be a part of their journey. In addition to spending time with my family, I am an avid hunter from big game to gophers and birds. I can also be found in my mancave admiring my passion through photos and mounts of the wall that tell the story of my adventures. In the summer I also enjoy golfing, camping and spending time out on the SXS with family and friends.

SOMEONE YOU ADMIRE? (OR YOUR HERO)

As I reflect over my life, my grandfather truly stands out as someone who has left a long-lasting impact on my life and who I’ve admired greatly. He has always been there to guide and support me through life, and we always had a great bond. He was also there to share my passions and hobbies with and taught me how hunt and golf. He has helped shape the man I am today and has guided me through life lessons which has stayed with me to this day.

WORDS YOU LIVE BY: (FAVOURITE QUOTE OR LIFE PHILOSOPHY)

I don’t like to take life too seriously. One quote that makes me chuckle is “I don’t mean to brag, but I put together a puzzle in 1 day when the box said 2-4 years” – while it always gives me a laugh, it also resonates with my belief that life is complicated enough, no matter what I’m working on I try not to overcomplicate things and keep moving forward.
