I got my start in construction with a residential contractor when I was 19, and later joined Scott as a fourth-year carpenter. Through hard work and determination, I worked my way up to become a Journeyman in 2006. From there, I took on roles such as Site Super, Project Manager, and now Business Development, constantly seeking new challenges and opportunities for growth. Alongside my professional journey, I am also a proud father to three wonderful kids—Ian, Cameron, and Jorja. Being a dad brings me immense joy and fulfillment, and I cherish every moment spent with my children. Balancing my career and my role as a father has been a rewarding and integral part of my life.
ANDREW
Project Manager
I am transitioning out of my role as a Project Manager that I have been for the last 7 years into Business Development to help pull a little more weight in the direction Scott Builders is going.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT BEING PART OF THE SCOTT BUILDERS TEAM?
I love the freedom and flexibility I have in my role. Also running the Social Committee and planning events for our Staff and their families has been a surprisingly enjoyable adventure as well. I really like to encourage others to be their best.
WHAT INITIALLY DREW YOU TO THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY & WHAT MADE YOU STAY?
Coming from a family deeply rooted in construction, with my dad, brother, and several other relatives being skilled in various trades, I’ve always had a knack for practicality. I take pride in being able to handle tasks that others would typically hire someone else to do. There’s a sense of accomplishment when I can transform a set of drawings into a tangible structure that exceeds the client’s expectations months down the line. Witnessing their astonishment and satisfaction with the results brings immense gratification. Working at Scott Builders feels like a second home to me, and that’s precisely why I’ve chosen to stay. Throughout my time here, I’ve not only contributed to countless projects but also provided support and camaraderie to our staff. The combination of a supportive work environment and the belief that I can thrive here is what keeps me motivated to show up day after day.
WHEN YOU’RE NOT HARD AT WORK, WHERE CAN WE FIND YOU?
A typical day for me varies depending on the time, but it generally follows a routine. My spouse and I wake up at 4:30 am and enjoy coffee in bed until 5:00 am. By 5:20 am, we’re both heading to our beloved gym, Pure CrossFit, where the 5:45 am class feels like an extended family. After an energizing workout, we return home around 7:00 am and begin preparing the kids for school while getting ourselves ready for work. From around 8:30 am to 3 or 4 pm, I’m usually at the office. Once I’m back home, the evening is filled with various activities. Whether it’s working on a personal project, assisting with homework, playing catch in the backyard, or laughing at funny videos that will embarrass my children, there’s never a dull moment. Recently, we’ve taken up roller skating as a family, and it’s been an absolute blast tearing up old hockey rinks. During the winter months, skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, and any other sports-related activities are among our favorites to enjoy together as a family.
SOMEONE YOU ADMIRE? (OR YOUR HERO)
My dad has always been my role model, even though he passed away seven years ago. He embodied integrity and honor, and no matter how badly I messed up, I knew he would always support me unconditionally. It’s that same unwavering support that I strive to provide to my own kids. I admire myself for the consistency I maintain in my work and my commitment to going to the gym four to five times a week. I believe in teaching my children the importance of exercise and mental well-being, and I’m always there to discuss the challenging aspects of growing up with them. My heroes are my kids—Ian, who bravely faces his dark thoughts and seeks the help he needs; Cameron, who is endlessly curious and dedicated to self-improvement; and Jorja, my little sweetheart, who exhibits strength, courage, and compassionate nature. I take immense pride in watching my children succeed, and it fills my heart with joy. And last but not least, my spouse, is incredibly attractive and a constant source of love and encouragement. Without her, I would be lost.
WORDS YOU LIVE BY: (FAVOURITE QUOTE OR LIFE PHILOSOPHY)
“Do better and suck less.” Initially, it started as a joke about dealing with subpar tradespeople, where the minimum expectation was for them to improve even slightly in their invoicing, workmanship, or simply showing up to work. However, it has evolved into a personal mantra, a reminder to constantly seek improvement in every aspect of life, striving to be a little better each day.
The misattributed quote from the Ted Lasso movie, “Be curious and not judgmental,” resonates deeply with me. It reminds me of how we all desire to be treated and prompts me to pause and consider that there are always two sides to every story. It reinforces the notion that reactions should not be made until both perspectives are heard. Additionally, in my new role, it serves as a reminder to maintain curiosity about what the client truly desires.
The phrase “This too shall pass” has been a comforting reminder for my oldest child. It reassures him that the current struggles he faces, which contribute to his personal growth, will eventually fade away. It instills the belief that these challenges are temporary and necessary for developing inner strength.
