Komatsu Mining Corp. is a subsidiary of Komatsu Ltd., an industry-leading manufacturer and supplier of equipment, technologies and services for the construction, forklift, mining, industrial and forestry markets, and has been in operation for almost a century. This Technical Centre is the largest building they own in Western Canada. It includes an office, parts warehouse and fabrication/maintenance shops. Foundation design was extensive – 585 piles were required for the building. They were installed 49’ deep versus the typical 13’-26’. The Mechanical Shop contains two overhead cranes with 10- and 30-ton hoists on each but the Fabrication Shop has 50- and 100-ton hoists on their two cranes. The Komatsu Team played an extensive role and collaborated closely with Scott in the overall design of this impressive facility.
