PROJECT SUMMARY
AltaLink is one of Canada’s largest electricity transmission Companies and is responsible for the maintenance and operation of approximately 1200 kilometres of transmission lines and 208 substations in Alberta. Their new AltaLink Janet Service Centre, at 74,465 sq. ft., was designed and built to service huge utility transformers in their high voltage Servicing Bay, requiring in this area alone, two 80 Ton Cranes operating from inside to outside through a 30’ x 30’ door opening. Other challenges for the Design-Build team included the provision of fire protection from a 2.0 acre retention pond and pump house on the site, with site services to be accommodated on site via underground cisterns. The Team, comprised of AltaLink, their Project Manager, Scott as the Design-Build Contractor and BCW Architects, collaborated very well to produce a well designed, functional and attractive facility.
