# Recognition That Reflects the Work: Scott Builders at RDCA

There are moments in construction where the work speaks for itself, and then there are moments where you pause long enough to recognize what it actually took to get there. For Scott Builders, the Red Deer Construction Association (RDCA) Awards was one of those moments.

This year, the team was recognized with top honours in both major project categories: Paramount Shop and Office (Best Project Under $7.5M) and Kikinow Elders Lodge (Best Project Over $7.5M). Two very different projects, two different teams, and two different sets of challenges, but one consistent outcome. Awards don’t come from easy projects. They come from the ones that achieve more. More coordination, more communication, and more decisions when the path forward isn’t always clear. Both of these builds demanded exactly that. Different clients, different expectations, and different complexities to navigate, but the standard didn’t change.

From early planning through to completion, the focus stayed the same: show up prepared, stay accountable, and deliver what was promised. “Recognition like this doesn’t happen because of one moment,” said Murray Cunningham, CEO of Scott Builders. “It’s the result of hundreds of decisions made the right way, by people who take ownership of their work and follow through.”

That mindset is what carries projects forward when conditions shift, because in construction, they always do. What made this experience different wasn’t just the builds themselves, it was what came after. To submit for the RDCA Awards, both teams had to step outside their day-to-day roles, not just to build, but to reflect, to articulate the challenges they faced, the decisions they made, and why the work mattered. That’s not always a natural exercise in construction, where the work is typically measured on site, in real time. But this process created something valuable internally. “It pushed our teams to think differently,” Cunningham said. “Not just about how they build, but how they represent and articulate the work. When people are supported and trusted, they step up in ways you don’t always see day-to-day.”

We are proud that the submissions and the projects followed our need for transparency and clarity. For us this means always having a clearer understanding of the impact behind the work. Winning both major categories in the same year says something important. It’s not about one standout project, it’s about consistency. Across estimating, preconstruction, project management, and site execution, every part of the organization played a role in delivering outcomes that stand up not just to clients, but to industry peers. And none of it happens in isolation.

“We work with people who care about the outcome,” Cunningham said. “That’s what makes nights like this possible. It’s never just one team, it’s everyone pulling in the same direction.”

That alignment between teams, partners, and clients is where strong projects are built. Recognition has value when it reflects something real. The RDCA Awards are judged by people who understand the complexity behind construction, the trade-offs, the pressure, and the countless decisions that shape a project from start to finish. Earning recognition in both categories reinforces something Scott Builders has built over time: a pattern of trusted delivery.

For clients and partners, that consistency matters. It reduces risk, builds confidence, and shows that no matter the scope, the same level of discipline and clarity will be applied. “Recognition is appreciated, and I want to recognize our teams for this special honour from the RDCA” Cunningham said. “This reinforces how we operate. Doing the right things and focusing our attention on what’s next, the next project, the next challenge, and delivering on the commitments we’ve made.”
